The Rail Museum 'Magaliesburg Express' (SANRASM):
Take the Magaliesburg Express to the picturesque Magaliesburg countryside, courtesy of the South African National Railway and Steam Museum (SANRASM) Disembark at the Magaliesburg Country Hotel for a buffet lunch, or go right on to the restored old Magaliesburg Station by train and enjoy the outdoor picnic ground and play park. You can settle down in our roomy day-sitter coaches, or you can reserve private compartments or even a whole coach for your family or group. (Or several coaches if you like.) We board the train at various stations across the South of Jo'berg, the first stop being Maraisburg at about 09:15am. The Magaliesburg Express also stops at the Unified and Krugersdorp stations by prior arrangement. The actual boarding times will be announced by SANRASM, as the actual times are determined according to the time schedule issued by Transnet. (Reefsteamers must have permission from Transnet Freight Rail (ex-Spoornet) to stop at a specific station and occupy the main line.) The Magaliesburg Express runs with a kitchen car where warm food is available to quell those morning train trip hunger pangs. The tuck shop is open on both outbound and return trips. There is no bar car, but passengers are welcome to bring their own drinks on board. Train-themed toys and puzzles, as well as simple toy train sets and whirly windmills are available for sale on board the train to help keep the kiddies busy. |
